Tonight, Jupiter and Saturn appear in the sky the closet they’ve been in around 800 years. For the past six weeks or so, I’ve been watching the two bright planets getting closer and closer to one another in the western sky, just after sunset. So I made the above graphic in Adobe Illustrator to commemorate the event and get some design experience.
I started by tracing over photographs, then added shading and positioned them to overlap. It took a very long time to decide on the typefaces, and I didn’t feel like it came together until I added the little stars.
Here’s what it would look like on a T-shirt.
